Chanterelle Moulin

Orphan, Adventurer, Gladiator

Past Unknown. Future Unwritten

Chanterelle's life, and memories, begin the day some citizens of Gridania found an unconscious child of eight or nine years by the landmark watermill. Burned, bruised, and grievously wounded, Chanterelle bore no recollections of what happened, and the Wood Wailers were unable to find evidence of a recent attack that would account for this happening. Her first name, Chanterelle, came from the mushrooms that were in season in that location at the time, and Moulin, from an old Elezen word for "mill."She was placed into an orphanage where, it soon became evident that, unless you were a Wildwood elezen child, you were treated as lesser by the staff and other children. As a result, Chanterelle spent a great deal of her teenage years acting out and getting into trouble, including such things as petty thievery, drinking, and constant fighting. The orphanage keepers, at their wits ends, finally banished her to make her own way in the world, with nothing but the clothes on her back and some parting insults.Thrust out into a world she already felt rejected from, she began taking jobs as an adventurer, shamelessly engaging in dangerous situations. Determined to prove her skill at fighting and self-conscious of the scars on her face and body, she eventually made her way to Ul'dah, and, with the money she scraped together from odd jobs, entered her first tournament on the Bloodsands.

About Chanterelle

  • Name: Chanterelle Moulin

  • Race: Highlander

  • Physical features: Intense burns and scars of other physical injuries on her face and body.

  • Age: 21 ish. Solid on the ish. Willing to make up an age if pressed.

  • Height: 5' 10"

  • Body Type: Muscled, well built

  • Gender: Female

  • Occupation: Adventurer, recreational gladiator, explosives enthusiast

While appearing to be loud, confident, and bombastic, always looking for a scrap, booze, or something to kill, Chanterelle Moulin has a hard time forming close, personal connections with people, due to her childhood and early adulthood of being abandoned and struggling to belong. She is self-conscious of her facial scars, but if you even mention them she will try to fight you for commenting on them. She has very little patience for those who think they are better than others, or those that she perceives talk a big game without the skills to back it up.She does have a soft side; always willing to offer whatever food she has to a hungry child, or share a bottle of spirit with a fellow thirsty adventurer, although you probably shouldn't bring attention to this if you don't want a scrap. She is willing to drink anything cheap and strong, often to excess. It used to mostly be in an attempt to escape the recurring dreams she has of fire, pain, and screaming. Which probably has something to do with her life before the watermill, which continues to remain unknown. Lately, however, she has cut down on the drinking, both to fund her explosives habit and in pursuit of trying to dig more information out of her dream.

Ongoing Story

Having made her way to Ul'dah, she signed up for the first available tournament at the Bloodsands with nearly all the money she had in her purse, that she acquired from such odd jobs as clearing pests or moving goods. Looking to gain an edge, she visited an apothecary shop the day it opened to acquire some potions to boost her strength and agility in the arena. The shop keepers felt for her and reduced the cost (throwing in some free ginseng), meaning that she had enough money for a hot meal and a singular room the night before the Sultana's Cup tournament.Chanterelle showed up bright and early for her initial tournament, Sultana's Cup, perhaps a bit too confident. Her opponent's initial flurry of attacks drove her back. She was able to rally and gain some ground. They soon locked into a stalemate, with Chanterelle's opponent eking out a win with some fancy footwork. Devastated and out the entry fee, Chanterelle turns towards adventuring jobs in hopes of getting enough gil to enter another tournament. She did slightly better in the Dust Bowl Tournament, being knocked out in the third round after a grueling fight. This was followed by the Dead Roses Cup, where she made it all the way to the semifinals before being eliminated. She tried her luck in the Sapphire Avenue Tournament, but due to the length of time she'd been away from the arena, proved quite rusty and was routed in three of four rounds and barely squeezed a draw out of the fourth round. She continued to do odd jobs in between tournaments; she found herself in Ishgard, chasing a series of leves in that frozen place. Slowly but surely, she is forming ties with others, even friendships - unusual for her. As well as a surprising enthusiasm for explosives. Most recently, she has run into trouble in Ul'dah, leading to her fighting in an underground fighting ring for a month. She was surprisingly successful, and left for Tural at the end of it with enough gil to keep her going for awhile.

Hooks

  • You are keen on a friendly duel.

  • You have a job that needs doing, such as killing something, guarding something, or really, any adventurer type job available (If it can involves explosives, she will be especially interested!)

  • You are down for a drink, a scrap, or both.

These are just some of my ideas; if you have any of your own I am certainly happy to consider how our characters' stories might mesh together!

Tournament & Leveling System

This is the system I came up with in order to progress Chanterelle's story and prowess in the arena, to advance her story in the absence of RP partners. If you want to be an RP partner using this system, that's cool, too!Fight system: Fights are best 2 out of 3 rounds, with each opponent rolling a dice determined by their level. At level 1, it's a d6; at level 2, a d8, and so on. A roll of 3+ over the opponent will grant a bonus of +2 to the following round. Rolls are made in game using /random. During a tournament, Chanterelle will get a +1 to die roll against NPC opponents for each successful win. Against a live player, roll initiative each round.Leveling system: At level 1, Chanterelle will need to win 5 matches to advance to level 2. This is incremented by 1 every level, i.e., to reach level 3, Chanterelle will need to win 6 matches.Chanterelle's current level: 3
Dice: d10
Progress towards next level: 6/7
Wins: 17
Losses: 8
Draws: 1

5. Gilly's Bouts

Finding herself indebted to the patron of an underground fighting ring, Chanterelle finds herself fighting against a variety of opponents at a much higher frequency than previous, under strict rules handed down by her "patron" (the penalty which is being bound longer by said "patronage").Chanterelle, level 2, is starting with a d8; the dice of the opponent will randomly be assigned from d6 - d14 (rolling randomly to choose). She will carry over a +1 to her roll from each bout she wins.

Things to Know

  • Chanterelle is on Seraph, Dynamis, on NAd. I am willing to travel to whatever DC is open to facilitate RP.

  • I am open to both Discord and in-game RP. I am mostly active during the evening in CST. If in-game RP, I usually need to schedule it ahead of time.

  • My hooks are merely suggestions to hopefully get the creative juices flowing; feel free to talk about different options !

  • I love long-term RP and character developments, and discussing them OOC, whether by text or in voice.

  • I am unlikely to want to do RP that is romantic first and foremost. I would rather do romantic relationships that develop naturally over the course of a long-term RP.

  • I am not fond of modern theming/cyberpunk ala Solution 9. Not saying characters from Heritage Found or Solution 9 are completely off the table, but unless something in my outlook vastly changes, I have no desire whatsoever to RP in Solution 9.

  • I do use Mare and mods, but if you do not, I am happy to RP with you anyways!

  • No grievous bodily harm, character death, or ERP without prior discussion.

  • If we have an ongoing story and you have to step away for awhile - or you want to stop RPing with me altogether - that's fine, but please let me know!
